Last Words?
(April 2002)

The weekly Fifth Night Screenplay Reading Series, which has led to 39 feature films productions since it began in 1994 at the Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe, will come to an end tonight with a reading at 8. Citing an inability to attract adequate financing for the not-for-profit Fifth Night organization, Alexandra Berger, the senior director, expressed hope that sufficient consistent financial backing could be found soon to enable the readings to resume. Tonight’s attraction at the cafe, at 236 East Third Street, between Avenues B and C, East Village, will be Katherine Burger’s “Forever Wild,” an updated retelling of the 1982 Peter Greenaway film “The Draughtsman’s Contract.” Tickets cost $8. Reservations are required. Information: (212) 529-9329.
